Biometric Gun Safe

One of the most tragic statistics that we hear about each year are how many children are injured or killed because they were playing with guns. The biometric gun safe is a fairly new and innovative product that can hopefully lower these statistics significantly. Though the majority of gun owners are responsible and try their hardest to keep their guns safely away from the wrong people, many times a gun safe that uses a lock or a combination can be broken into. Keys or combinations can be found, often with tragic results. With biometric safes, however, there's no chance of getting into them unless the owner programs you to be able to.

A biometric gun safe has no key or combination. It uses technology that has been used by businesses and government agencies for quite a while to ensure the highest security. In order to get into a biometric safe, it must be able to recognize your fingerprint. You press the correct finger against a panel, and if your fingerprint has been programmed into the system, the safe will open. It's as easy as that, but it's also as safe as that. If someone who's not been programmed into the system tries to get into the safe, it will not open, period.

How easy is it to program a biometric gun safe? First of all, you wouldn't want it to be so easy that anyone could figure it out, since that would defeat its purpose altogether. For one thing, the owner sets it so that only he or she can program it for fingerprints. This means that you can, as the owner, program the safe to recognize your fingerprint, and then only you can program it to recognize anyone else's fingerprint. For instance, if you want your spouse to be able to get into the safe easily, you must first allow the system to recognize you as primary owner, and then you program in your spouse's fingerprint. Though the system will then allow your spouse to open the safe from then on, your spouse still cannot program it for someone else. This adds even more security.

A biometric gun safe is almost always going to be more secure than another type of gun safe, but that doesn't mean that they're all created equal. There are several different types of biometric safes that you can purchase, and if you're looking for one that is specifically for a gun, there are different brands and types for those as well. Before you shop for one, you'll want to figure out if you need just a small one for a handgun, or perhaps a larger one to hold several guns or a larger gun.

One of the larger gun shops or a place that sells safes exclusively will probably have the biometric gun safe that you need. Be sure that any place you shop for your gun safe is reputable, and that they can give you information on quality and features. A smaller biometric safe for a pistol can run you anywhere from $120 for a basic model to $400 for the most deluxe model. A larger biometric safe, whether you purchase one specifically for guns or not, can often run into the thousands of dollars. Overall, biometric safes cost more than other kinds.
